Your Questions about the Wycombe Child Contact Centre

What is it?

A place for children to meet with parents from whom they are separated after family breakdown.

When is it?

Alternate Saturdays between 10am and 4pm. Length of stay by arrangement.

A full list of the dates we are open is available on the Forms and Downloads page.

Who runs it?

Trained volunteers from the community run the centre and accommodation is provided by the Union Baptist Church.

Who can use the centre?

  • Children who have not had contact with a parent a need a place to re-establish their relationship.
  • Children whose absent parent does not have suitable accommodation for contact visits or who live a distance away.
  • The centre may also be used as a handover point for children.

Who is it for?

The centre's main aim is to help children whose parents are separated to spend time with the parent that they do not live with. We hope that our neutral, relaxed environment will help to make a difficult situation easier for parents.

How can we arrange to use it?

Referrals can be made through your Solicitor, Court Welfare Officer, Social Worker or directly by yourself. A referral form is available on the Forms & Downloads page

What will I find there?

A play area with a variety of toys and games for different ages.

The parent with whom the child is living should introduce the child to the centre before the actual contact takes place.

Is there a charge?

The charge is £1 each from both the resident and non-resident parent per session. Tea, Coffee or squash are free of charge. Other snacks are for sale at reasonable prices.

Do I have to meet the other parent?

Not if you do not want to. If you would prefer not to meet you should let your solicitor or the centre co-ordinator know and it can be arranged.

Can the children go out of the centre?

This depends on what has been arranged beforehand by both parents in writing or by the court.

What if I can't come?

If you find that you are unable to come as arranged, please try to contact your former partner in advance and let the Co-ordinator know. On the days that the centre is open you can leave a message after 9.00am by phoning 07747 06639107747 066391.

Are there any rules?

Parents will be responsible for the safety and supervision of their children at the centre. Children need a familiar face so we ask that you wait with them until your former partner arrives.

The church has a No Smoking and No Alcohol Policy.

The volunteers may ask you to leave if they feel that you are under the effect of alcohol or drugs.

Can I bring my new partner?

In general we find that it is in the best interest of the children if your new partner does not come into the centre with you at least for the first few visits.
